November 29th - Week Five

11am - Al-Masad defeated Kawthar 58-50 in a solid comeback as they trailed at halftime; Al-Masad has put together a solid run to win their last three games after losing in Week One. Kawthar were playing without leading scorer Mudasir Marfatia but Komail Rawjani stepped up with 16 points in a losing cause. Al-Masad were led by Tremell Mayers with 16 points while Ibrahim Rakkie and Masuud Issa each finished with 12 points with some hot shooting from the outside as Rakkie was 4/4 and Issa was 2/2 shooting three-pointers.

Fatiha was led by Youssef Daif with 13 points while Kenrick Williams finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks as the big man controlled the paint. Kursi was led by Huziafa Khan with 17 points and Mannahel Choudhry with 10 points. Talha Basit was held to 2 points and 4 rebounds as his former teammates worked to keep him off the glass after he pulled down 31 rebounds in his last two games. Kursi has struggled with multiple injuries so a loss at some point isn't a surprise but if they can get healthy again they will get back to their winning ways.

1pm - Qariyah defeated Zilzal 62-50 as they built up an early lead and never looked back. Zilzal got a huge game from Fareed Cheema with 32 poitns and 12 rebounds but little support otherwise in the loss. The win keeps Qariyah in sole possession of first place while Zilzal slides down to seventh. Saad Ahmad has been the driving force for Qariyah and his teammates will need to step up as defenses focus on him more as the season progresses.

2pm - Ikhlas routed Nas by a 58-43 final score where they felt they dominated all aspects of the game to exact some revenge after losing to Nas in the Championship game last season. Ikhlas was led by Zakariya Tmj Khan with 17 points while Chad Mondesir finished with 13 points. Nas was led by Sanel Sehic with 15 points (although he was forced out of the game at halftime) and Narcisse Ambanza with 10 points. Nas has struggled with injuries and the health of Jamal SaugaCity Bundy Douglas is critical as he tried to play through an ankle injury with little success. Jim Ex has reportedly been pondering whether he should come off the disabled list for next week's game against longtime rivals Fatiha but considering the seriousness of his knee injury and where his rehab is at it would be better if he waiting until he was closer to 100%. With the win Ikhlas moves into a tie for first place while Nas drops to sixth with two losses and with have not lost more than two regular season games in the last four seasons.

3pm - Takathur defeated Bayyina by a 52-44 score in a game that was close right to the end. Bayyina controlled the interior with their size but the patience and passing from Takathur along with some solid shooting from the outside allowed them to get the win. Faizal Merali led the way with 15 points while Alykhan Bhimji finished with 13 points. Bayyina was led by Paul Esplen with 13 points and Paul Boychuk with 11 points and 9 rebounds. 4pm - Ma'un defeated Inshirah 65-34 in a game that was close until the final 10 minutes where Ma'un blew it open. Coming off a bitter loss to rivals Qariyah in Week Three, Ma'un were expected to come out strong but found themselves trailing early as Teepu Khawja drilled a pair of three's and had Ma'un on their heels. But the young legs of Ma'un kept plugging away and built a lead at halftime that shrunk early in the second half but as Inshirah wore down, Ma'un hit their shots to break the game open for their second win - equaling their win total from last season. Reyhan Choudhury led all scorers with 15 points while Khawja added 13 for Inshirah who remain win less for the season. Ma'un was led by Moazzam Sheikh with 14 points while Jamal Khan and Asfandyar Khan each finished with 13 points. Ma'un once again showed that the team has a bright green light to shoot three's at will as the team went 7/33 from the outside.
